Kennetta's California Birthday

This year we were able to do something really special for my birthday.  We caught a new flight from Missoula to Oakland for a bithday week in warm California.  We drove an hour or so to stop by and visit Brian's grandma, aunt, dad, and Hannah for a nice birthday dinner complete with my favorite kind of pizza and cake (to celebrate both my and Brian's aunt Pat's birthday).  We then spent the night with Brian's mom and stepdad and had a nice breakfast with his mom the next morning before heading out to the coast (Monterey).

Cannery Row in Monterey

Brian and I at Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey

This is the view from our hotel in Monterey.

The beach in front of our hotel.  Brian and I had a good time playing around in the waves.  It was still a little too cold for us to swim:)  (OK  it was too cold for ME to swim)

Gotta prove that after 3 years of marriage we still kind of like eachother:)   Mush!!!!

A gift from the hotel upon learning that it was my birthday.

Brian and I on the boat on our way out to go whale watching.  We saw some Humpback whales and some Pacific White-sided dolphins.  They were too quick to get any good pictures... but were still fun to watch!

At least I got some sealife to pose for the camera:)

We were even willing to drive 15 miles out of our way to get som In n Out Burger!!!  Yummy!

Pebble Beach Park

Having fun playing on the rocks...

Brian and I at the Giants baseball game.  We were able to get tickets on the 3rd base line in the second row.  We were able to see everything up close!  Tons of fun!

A beautiful day for baseball!

Mexico 2012

I was amazed, and more than a little ashamed, as I signed on to the blog to realize that I haven't updated it in a year!  Yikes:(!  I apologize.  It is not that I haven't had anything to write about... quite the contrary.  Brian and I are so scheduled that it is a rare treat to have a night without something planned.  It is all wonderful stuff: bible studies, game nights, dinners etc. but we are easily distracted.  This last year has been wonderful.  I am blessed to say that marriage is like a fine wine...it just gets better with time.  And after only three years I can only anxiously await what it will be like 50 or 60 years down the road.

This year for our anniversary we decided to travel to Mexico.  The decision came after Brian and I saw people kitesurfing on the north shore of the Dominican and decided that we wanted to try it out.  Unfortunately, we learned that it is something that takes days to learn... So we found a nice place for this year's anniversary where we could both kitesurf and dive.  The beaches of Tulum and Cozumel fit the bill perfectly.  I had been to Tulum before and knew what a wonderful and relaxing place it was, and I was anxious to take a trip up to Cozumel as well (particularly because it is so famous for diving).   It definitely lived up to its reputation.  So, without further ado, I will let the pictures tell the story of our trip:

Eating lunch out in the plaza of Cozumel

Waiting for our dive.  Note that the sun is setting...we went on our first night dive this trip.  You use flashlights to see everything.  Night creatures like the octopus, crab, and lobster were plentiful!
Kennetta's favorite Mexican food "Queso fundido" with B's favorite app "Jalapeno poppers"

Our hotel in Cozumel

Gotta love churros off the street late at night!

The gringo enjoying his first gringa

Brian and I were in Tulum for the final nights of Carnaval.
We were surprised by the detail and quality of the floats and costumes.

The view of the beach right in front of our hotel in Tulum

Brian told me that I am the right size for a Mayan.
I was born in the wrong place I guess:)

The iguanas are plentiful and more than ready to pose for the camera...

Enjoying cheese fondu in a Lebanese restaurant in Playa del Carmen????

Learning to manage the kite for kitesurfing

Kennetta taking the kite out into the water to practice control.

More yummy Mexican food at our beach cafe.

On our way to dive one of the cenotes or sinkholes.

The first cenote called "The pit".
We dove around 120 feet into this sinkhole checking out all the formations.

I stole this picture off the internet because we had underwater camera issues,
but I wanted you to be able to see how amazing it is in the cenotes

The second cenote "Dos Ojos" is more like diving through Lewis and
Clark Caverns with just a lamp and the occasional rays of light.

A banana shake and Bohemia to rehydrate us after our dive.

Brian taking the chance to enjoy a cuban.

Brian got pretty good at kitesurfing.  It is a long learning process, however, and
we ran out of wind and time so we weren't able to continue...

Ferry to Cozumel

I just had to take a picture of the elephant on my bed.

Cheesy!
